As mentioned in our previous post, the business of alcohol can be tricky. There are so many options at so many price points, it can be challenging to identify the right one for you. Vodka, one of the most popular spirits, serves as a good example.
The price range for an average-sized bottle of vodka varies from around $7 up to about $100, with the majority of bottles costing between $10 and $40. When presented with the dizzying arrays of vodkas at the liquor store, it is tempting to assume that quality and price are directly related.
However (luckily for us consumers), this is not the case. In a chart that we’ve constructing comparing price and composite quality score, the relationship looks more like this:
So what does this tell us? It shows that if we are looking for the highest-rated vodkas, they can be found at virtually all price points. All of the vodkas represented in this graph are good – they have won awards or been recognized by spirits institutions as quality. Those hundred-dollar vodkas? They’re probably awesome. But if we are looking for the best ‘bang for our buck’, so to speak, we definitely don’t have to shell out tons of cash to be satisfied.
For the curious among you: that dot way high up before $25? That’s Finlandia Grapefruit Fusion. It retails for around $19 per bottle. It has won the double gold medal in both 2010 and 2011 from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and likewise placed platinum at the SIP Awards International Spirits Competition. Pricy? No. Quality? Multiple sources say yes.
Using our Vodka Piki, you can craft your own top 10 list by prioritizing what’s important to you. Handily enough, we’ve already created a list of ‘cheap and good’ to save most of you some time. Had a fantastic vodka recently? Make sure to rate it for quality, smoothness, and taste to help others find quality vodkas. At Pikimal, we’re all about helping users find what they’re looking for in an unbiased arena. So, when you contribute your opinion you’re helping your peers.
